The MS 462 clutch uses left-hand threads (turn clockwise to loosen). Ensure the needle bearing is lubricated with high-temperature grease before installation. Improper alignment of the drum notch with the oiler worm gear can cause immediate damage to the oiling system.
If your saw has been “smoked” or the chain is creeping at idle, the heat likely weakened the clutch springs. Replacing the entire assembly—rather than just the springs—ensures the drum surface is perfectly round and smooth for maximum grip under heavy load.
